“Sometimes, a man rises from the darkness”

when I read the dark knight returns I had a feeling nolan would use the same ending and have batman fake his own death (because its awesome) but for a moment during this scene I thought
omg
maybe nolan is going to kill bruce
I felt so sad…
genuine sadness
as if my childhood pet just died in my arms
Im so glad Nolan took the Dark Knight Returns route, i mean after all the tragedy and pain he has endured throughout his many incarnations atleast in this one, he has his long overdue “happy ending.” Bruce sure as hell deserves it.
I think he should’ve died. Bruce is, at heart a tragic character. He’s not a hero, not really. At best, he’s an anti-hero. At worst, he’s a madman kept together through sheer force of will. As with Sherlock, he may be on the side of the angels, but never mistake him for one of them. From the moment his parents were killed in front of him, his life has been nothing but tragedy. On that night, whatever was there before was killed as well, and the Bruce Wayne that would later take on the mantle of the bat was born. This Bruce Wayne is a creature born of pain, and thrived on it, waiting for the ultimate tragedy to finish him. There is no riding into the sunset for him, no glamorous ending, no hero’s send off. He knows this, and accepted it. In his heart, Bruce Wayne knows he will die a painful and tragic death. His hope lies not in survival, or even redemption, but in the possibility that his death can help another avoid his ultimate fate
